Hamburg enjoyed a scorching May with an average temperature of 16.5°C, much higher than the usual 12.4°C, as confirmed by the German Weather Service (DWD) last Friday. The month also saw seven hot summer days where temperatures soared above 25°C. The hottest day was on May 16 with a sizzling 27.1°C.
May in Hamburg was not just about the heat, though. It also had some surprises in store. The first half of the month was dry, but the second half brought downpours. A total of 100 liters per square meter of rainwater collected, which was more than 70% over the average. The sun also made a grand appearance, with a stunning 270 hours of sunshine, far more than the usual 213 hours.
