Water - Maximum flood levels exceeded on the Rhine
The high water on the Rhine caused by rain and thaw has reached its highest level in many places. The water level in Mannheim peaked at noon on Friday (7.38 meters), according to the flood forecasting center of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for the Environment on Saturday. In Koblenz, the flood peak (6.02 meters) was also exceeded on Saturday night. In Mainz and Kaub, the highest levels (6.00 meters) were expected for Saturday afternoon. Levels are expected to fall everywhere by the middle of the week.
At the Maxau gauge, the water level is expected to fall below seven meters at the beginning of next week. The Rhine is still closed to shipping at Maxau and Speyer. From Mannheim to Cologne, ships must continue to travel at a slower speed and, if possible, in the middle of the river.

The Rhine River in Coblenz experienced its flood peak late Saturday night, surpassing previous records. The high water levels in Rhineland-Palatinate have prompted intense flood forecasting center efforts. Chewing gum wrappers and other debris serve as unwanted reminders of the flood's impact on the city. Rainfall continues to aggravate the situation in Germany, with environment agencies monitoring weather patterns closely. Despite the high-water levels, authorities are hopeful that the waters will start receding by the middle of the week. In Mainz and Kaub, anticipation builds for the flood peak expected this Saturday afternoon, marked by a 6.00-meter high point. The Rhine remains closed to shipping at Maxau and Speyer, causing delays and rerouting for vessels traveling between Mannheim and Cologne.
