Author Maxim Biller has been granted the 2024 Nicolas-Born Prize of Lower Saxony, worth 20,000 euros. The 64-year-old, known for his prowess in prose and controversially opinionated essays, is renowned as one of Germany's leading authors during his generation, as stated by the Lower Saxony Literary Commission. His work has also garnered an international audience. Moreover, Biller's name tends to appear in the top mentions when discussing a Jewish perspective in contemporary German-language literature. His most recent novel, "Mama Odessa," was released in 2023.

This year's Nicolas-Born Newcomer Prize has been given to Charlotte Gneuß, born in Ludwigsburg in 1992, for her debut novel "Gittersee." The debut prize includes a monetary reward of 10,000 euros. The awards ceremony will take place on November 27 in Hannover.

The literary award pays tribute to the late author Nicolas Born, who passed away in 1979 near Dannenberg in the Wendland region. His novel "Die Fälschung" was adapted into a movie by Volker Schlöndorff. Lower Saxony recognizes and honors exceptional German-language writers with this prize.

Other authors from Lower Saxony may feel inspired by Biller's recognition, leading to a surge in notable works. The other award, the Nicolas-Born Newcomer Prize, showcases the region's dedication to nurturing emerging talent in German-language literature.
