Max Kruse and SC Paderborn terminate contract
Max Kruse and SC Paderborn have terminated the former German international's contract with the second-division soccer club. The termination was made by mutual agreement, the club from East Westphalia announced on Friday. "Because the current situation was not satisfactory for us and for the player, we have parted ways," Paderborn's sporting director Benjamin Weber was quoted as saying in a club statement.
Kruse moved to Paderborn last summer after being released by VfL Wolfsburg a year ago. The 14-time German international had recurring injury problems at SCP. He only played five games for coach Lukas Kwasniok's team. According to the club, a torn muscle fiber suffered on matchday 2 set the 35-year-old back so much "that his physical condition made continuous appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga impossible".
Weber nevertheless said: "During his time in Paderborn, Max always behaved in an exemplary manner." Kruse himself said: "I wish the team and the club that they achieve their goals and wish everyone all the best for the future."
Coach Kwasniok had already publicly bid farewell to Kruse the day before. "A great person, unfortunately it didn't quite work out as we had imagined for both sides," he had said.
Despite Kruse's departure, SC Paderborn continues to compete in Bundesliga 2, aiming to secure a promotion back to the Bundesliga. In his time at the club, Max Kruse showcased his professionalism, even while facing setbacks due to injuries.
