Mattuschka replaces coach Heine at Altglienicke
Regional league soccer club VSG Altglienicke has parted ways with coach Karsten Heine and initially appointed former professional Torsten Mattuschka to manage the first team. "After a detailed analysis of the course of the season so far, the decision has been made to provide new impetus in the sporting area," according to the club's press release on Tuesday, which was first reported by "Kicker".
Former assistant coach Mattuschka will now coach the team together with his colleague Dan Twardzik until a successor for Heine has been found. The 68-year-old took over the team in the summer of 2019 and finished runners-up twice and won the Berlin State Cup once during his tenure. Altglienicke also wanted to get involved in the fight for promotion this season, but after twelve games they are eight points behind league leaders Energie Cottbus with 19 points and one game in hand. The extent to which Union legend Mattuschka will be able to carry out his punditry job on pay-TV channel Sky has not been announced.
The change in leadership at VSG Altglienicke's soccer team has led to Torsten Mattuschka taking over from Karsten Heine in the regional league. Under Mattuschka's guidance, along with Dan Twardzik, the team aims to regain their form and potentially challenge for promotion, as they currently trail league leaders Energie Cottbus by eight points.
