Matthäus declares dispute with Tuchel over
For TV pundit Lothar Matthäus, the dispute with Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel is over. After Munich's 4:0 victory in the top match of the Bundesliga at Borussia Dortmund, Tuchel reacted irritably to the previous criticism from experts Dietmar Hamann and Matthäus. In an interview on Sky TV, the coach engaged in a verbal duel with Matthäus and Sky presenter Sebastian Hellmann.
"The matter on Saturday is forgotten for me, also for my employer Sky. There will be no rumbling and no digging, no lashing out and no insults," Matthäus emphasized in his column for the pay-TV channel on Monday. The 62-year-old record international emphasized that his criticism after the game was only positive.
"Only FC Bayern's performance has unfortunately been given far too little credit. Little has been said about this brilliant victory, about FC Bayern's best game of the season," Matthäus continued. "I'm sorry for the team and for the players, because they deserved to be properly praised for their great performance. That was the kind of soccer you want from FC Bayern."
In the heated exchange between Tuchel and Matthäus on Sky TV, the Bundesliga title contenders FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were highlighted as the two teams in the center of the discussion. Despite the tension between Tuchel and Matthäus, Matthäus praised FC Bayern's dominant 4:0 victory over Dortmund as their best performance of the season.
