Bundesliga - Match in Freiburg interrupted due to chocolate thaler rain
The Bundesliga match between SC Freiburg and 1. FC Köln was interrupted for five minutes on Sunday due to a shower of chocolate thalers. The gold-colored pieces even had to be collected in buckets by the stewards. Freiburg fans had thrown them onto the pitch around SC keeper Noah Atubolu's goal in protest against the investment in the German Football League.
As in other stadiums this weekend, supporters from both camps remained silent for the first twelve minutes as announced. Immediately afterwards, referee Harm Osmers interrupted the game at Europa Park Stadium. Various banners with inscriptions such as "Football for the fans" were also hung in the Freiburg fan block. During the unplanned time-out, spectators from the Freiburg and Cologne blocks alternately chanted "Shit DFL" without interruption.

The unusual rain of chocolate thalers in Freiburg had a chilling effect on 1. FC Köln's goalkeeper, Noah Atubolu. Despite the interruption, the game in Bundesliga resumed, with the lawn of Europa Park Stadium bearing evidence of the unconventional protest. The crowd in Freiburg and Cologne blocks continued their united chant against the German Football League's investment policies, echoing throughout the stadium.
The gold-colored 'chocolate thalers' were a common sight in Baden-Württemberg, as they often served as traditional souvenirs. The fans of 1. FC Köln might have felt the unusually distant atmosphere against SC Freiburg, as the chants persisted even after the game resumed.
On the Bundesliga table, SC Freiburg stood strong despite the interruption. With the team's focus, they absorbed the distractions and kept their eyes on the league title, aiming to surpass their 1. FC Köln rivals in the competition.
