Bundesliga - Matarazzo's Christmas wish: Hoffenheim win against Darmstadt

Pellegrino Matarazzo wants a win from the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim professionals in the last game of the year. "What's important is 26 points under the Christmas tree," said the Bundesliga club's coach ahead of the clash with bottom-placed SV Darmstadt 98 this Tuesday (20:30/Sky).

TSG are currently seventh in the table with 23 points. A win at the end of the season would keep the team at the top. "It's another 90 minutes of focus and discipline," said Matarazzo, adding: "My feeling is that we still have something left in the tank and are ready to march again."

The 46-year-old named the entire team's willingness to defend as a basic prerequisite for a successful performance. "Then we will also get our spaces and score goals," said Matarazzo. The task must be tackled with conviction and energy.

In terms of personnel, the TSG coach has almost a full selection. Only the injured Wout Weghorst and Bambase Conté are missing. "Everyone else is fit," Matarazzo announced on Monday. The fact that there are no absences due to illness despite the increasing number of coronavirus cases may also be due to the stricter hygiene measures. "We no longer shake hands, for example," reported Matarazzo.

Although the newly promoted side have not won in eight games and have recently lost three in a row, the German-American warned against the Hessians. "Darmstadt are at the bottom of the table, but are strong players. We'll have to invest quite a bit," he said.
