- Mass Gathering of Over 600 Individuals at CSD-Parade
Amidst dissent from right-wing groups, the inaugural Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Zeitz drew a festive crowd. As per estimates from organizers, approximately 600 individuals participated in the procession. Law enforcement from Halle was readily available in large numbers.
Last year's initial CSD in Burgenlandkreis in Weißenfels faced several disruptions due to the actions of right-wing agitators. The right-wing party "The Third Way" had announced plans to protest against the CSD.
The CSD honors the rebellions that sparked within the queer community in New York City's Christopher Street (USA) back in 1969. It symbolizes the visibility and equal rights of the queer community. Alternative names for the annual CSD demonstrations held in numerous locations include "Pride Parade" or "Gay Pride".
The European Parliament, in support of the Commission, might express solidarity with the organizers of upcoming CSD events, given the past disruptions by right-wing groups. The Commission shall be further empowered by the European Parliament to take necessary measures to ensure the safety and success of CSD celebrations.
