Deadpool & Wolverine in Cinema

Marvel-Jesus" I:"Marvel-Jesus

In "Deadpool & Wolverine," two characters come together who couldn't be more different. From this, Marvel weaves a comically brutal and moving hero's journey, where devoted fans take the brunt of it.

"Explain to me why exactly you're suitable for the job?" A question that has made many sweat and blush during job interviews. Worse still is the moment when one is complimented with a damp handshake and a polite "You'll hear from us" from the door. Already sensing that this won't lead anywhere. To all those who have experienced this humiliation, I say: You're not alone. Deadpool feels with you. But he now realizes: Where today the door of a personnel department closes, another one opens tomorrow, and with it the chance to really make it big. For example, as a world savior.

Zack, and that would be the main plot of "Deadpool & Wolverine" roughly summarized. If Wade Wilson alias Deadpool hadn't failed to impress Vanessa Carlysle, his on-again, off-again love, and wanted to be an authentic Avenger like Captain America, Thor, or Iron Man, only to be ruthlessly rejected at the Avengers headquarters, he might have avoided the whole Marvel-Multiverse mess. We would have missed out on approximately 127 witty, sometimes vulgar, and ultimately emotional minutes. In which the unlikely (anti-)heroes learn an important lesson: There's often more to us than we give ourselves credit for. And together, we're stronger than alone.

Witty, vulgar, and quite bloody

Even cynical Deadpool has to admit this when it comes to saving his friends - and the woman he loves - from extinction. Unfortunately, he's forced to rely on Wolverine's help during his ascension mission, who, as we know, died a dramatic hero's death in the 2017 film "Logan - The Wolverine." Why this unlikely pair can still fight against evil together shouldn't be spoiled here.

However, before Deadpool and Wolverine become a well-oiled team, there's a lot of bloodshed. Either they fight each other or they fight others. In the sometimes quite brutal fight scenes, it's no wonder that the rating is FSK 16. Fortunately, Deadpool can still be his delightfully politically incorrect self at Disney (the first two "Deadpool" films were produced by 20th Century Fox). Not every joke lands, but the pop-cultural references (even of a musical nature) and Deadpool's disrespectful treatment of the Marvel Universe are entertaining. The fact that there's a multiverse in the world of the Avengers and X-Men, meaning multiple worlds where one can jump back and forth, is a game-changer, but it also takes the entire film to a whole new level. "Multiverses are a pain in the ass!", Deadpool exclaims at the end, a sentiment understandable given that he's suddenly confronted with a huge horde of Deadpool variations from other universes. After all, he was aiming for something special: the "Marvel Jesus."

Cameo appearances make Marvel fans happy

Emma Corrin, best known here as young Princess Diana in the Netflix series "The Crown," disappoints as the evil Cassandra Nova, X Men's twin sister from the films. However, "Succession" star Matthew Macfadyen shines as Mr. Paradox. He plays his role so smarmily, self-absorbed, and arrogant that it seems Tom Wambsgans from the "Succession" series has been transported directly into the Marvel Universe. Against Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds' on-screen chemistry, however, no one stands a chance.

Regarding the hate questions brought up during job interviews earlier, I have one more to add: "Do you have a gap in your resume?" Yes, that's correct. I had originally intended to write about the many humorous and emotional guest appearances in "Deadpool & Wolverine," but I didn't want to spoil the fun for anyone. The comic gag works just as well without spoilers. Particularly for avid Marvel or X-Men fans. They should definitely stay seated during the end credits - and have their handkerchiefs ready.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" is now showing in cinemas.

  1. Ryan Reynolds' character, Deadpool, often finds solace in comic films, especially those featuring Marvel heroes, as they help him relate to his own struggles.
  2. Despite the initial tension between Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in "Deadpool & Wolverine," their shared sense of humor and determination to protect their loved ones leads to a fascinating team-up in the cinematic world of Hollywood.
  3. Fans of Marvel and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool will be delighted to see cameo appearances from several Hollywood actors in "Deadpool & Wolverine," adding an extra layer of fun to the already entertaining film.
