Rescue operation - Markleeberg: Unmanned paddleboard triggers large-scale operation
A homeless paddleboard triggered an extensive response from rescue services at the Markleeberger See. The paddleboard rental company had reported the drifting board around 5 pm, leading to intense search efforts by police, fire department, and other rescue services as stated by the police on Tuesday morning. A 57-year-old man had rented the board in the afternoon a half hour prior.
A search team including a rescue dog squad, a helicopter, and drones were deployed to look for the possibly stranded man. A diving team from the German Life-Saving Association (DLRG) was also involved in the search. However, no one has been found yet, according to the police. The search was suspended at dusk, around 10 pm, but it will resume on Tuesday. The police could not yet specify an exact time for the resumption of search actions.
