Marien-Krankenhaus Lübeck becomes a retirement and nursing home
The "Caritashaus Simeon" retirement and nursing home in Lübeck's old town is to move into the vacant Marien Hospital building. This was announced by the Archdiocese of Hamburg on Wednesday. In addition, a 400 square meter center for outpatient operations is to be built in the former hospital. With the lease to Caritas and doctors, the building will continue to be dedicated to the care of sick people even after the closure of Marien-Krankenhaus, said Alexander Becker, Administrative Director of the Archdiocese of Hamburg. The Catholic Marien-Krankenhaus had been closed due to excessive costs.
The retirement and nursing home with 85 places is expected to move into the former Marien-Krankenhaus in 2025/2026 following the renovation. "This will allow us to finally offer the residents of Caritas House Simeon the long-awaited prospect of a modern nursing home in a prime location in Lübeck," said Matthias Timmermann, Director of the Caritas Association for the Archdiocese.
The transition of Marien-Krankenhaus to a retirement and nursing home opens up opportunities for social affairs, as the Caritashaus Simeon will relocate into the vacant building. The relocation will provide a modern nursing home for the residents of Caritas House Simeon, improving their quality of life in a prime Lübeck location.
