In the southern region of Alsace, France, the right-wing National Rally (RN) experienced significant success in the European elections. According to the French Interior Ministry, the Eurosceptics received almost 36% of the votes in the Haut-Rhin department.
At a national level, the RN emerged as the overwhelming winner of the European elections, accounting for 31.4% of the votes. The French President's party and its allies came in a distant second, garnering only 14.6% of the votes. The Haut-Rhin administrative region, which encompasses the popular tourist city of Colmar, is situated in a three-country corner with Germany and Switzerland.
In the northern Alsace (Bas-Rhin), the Le Pen party received 31.6% of the votes, slightly higher than the national average. However, in the city of Strasbourg, the left-wing party France Insoumise took the lead in the European elections, securing 21.3% of the votes.
In light of his party's heavy defeat, Macron dissolved the French National Assembly and announced the re-election of the parliamentary chamber within a few weeks. Two voting systems are scheduled for June 30 and July 7.
