Many pupils spend the night at school after the onset of winter
Numerous pupils and staff at a school in Wiesbaden had to spend the night in the school building due to the onset of winter. A spokesperson for the fire department announced on Tuesday morning that 55 people, including 27 children, had been accommodated in the school for the night as they were unable to travel home on school buses due to the weather conditions.
The pupils from an international school came from all over the Rhine-Main region, which is why it was no longer possible to return home due to the snowfall. A fire department support team of around 25 people is taking care of the students. It was unclear during the night whether classes would start again on Tuesday morning or whether the people affected would be able to go home first. Breakfast has been provided, the spokesperson said.
The weather conditions also disrupted traffic, making it challenging for some parents to pick up their children. Despite the school closing for the day, the uncertainty about the traffic and weather led to discussions about possibly canceling classes for the following day as well.
