More than a dozen people injured, including children and police officers - that is the result of several serious accidents in Baden-Württemberg overnight. It was unclear whether the weather played a role.

Traffic - Many injured in accidents in Baden-Württemberg

Several accidents with numerous injuries occurred on the roads of Baden-Württemberg on Friday night. Five serious injuries, a dozen minor injuries, including a child, a teenager and two police officers were the initial results of the accidents.

A total of seven people were injured in an accident on the 81 freeway near Mundelsheim (Ludwigsburg district), four of them seriously. A 33-year-old driver had lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the central crash barrier several times. As a result, three cars were also involved in the accident. The damage was estimated at 130,000 euros.

There was an accident on federal highway 28 near Rottenburg am Neckar (Tübingen district) in which six people were injured. One woman suffered serious injuries and among the five slightly injured were a seven-year-old and a 16-year-old. The damage here amounted to around 30,000 euros.

There was a subsequent accident on the Autobahn 5 near Bruchsal (Karlsruhe district) on Friday morning. Two police officers and two truck drivers were slightly injured. The police officers had just recorded an accident between the trucks when a third truck drove into the scene of the accident.

There were numerous dicey situations on the Autobahn 8 near Rutesheim (Böblingen district) on Thursday evening. A lost ramp from a truck was lying on the carriageway. 18 cars drove over it and most of the tires were damaged. The damage was estimated at 50,000 euros.

Although it has not yet been conclusively determined whether snowfall and possible icy conditions had an effect on the accidents, the police generally advised caution. A police spokesperson said: "If you notice that the weather is getting too bad, you should simply pull out at the service area and wait and see."
