Handball - "Many clueless": Handball player Klimpke apologizes
Handball goalkeeper Till Klimpke has publicly apologized for his own interview. "I only really realized the impact of my statements this morning. That's not me!", Klimpke wrote in a statement released by his club HSG Wetzlar on Saturday. The 25-year-old was not called up for the provisional European Championship squad and reacted emotionally in an interview on the streaming service Dyn.
"I think it showed very well," said Klimpke on Friday after his club's 30:36 defeat against Füchse Berlin when asked about his non-nomination. He then added: "I think I have to be careful what I say now. That there are a lot of clueless people in there. I think I'm right to say that now."
On Saturday, he no longer wanted to let these sentences, which were apparently also directed at national coach Alfred Gislason, stand. He apologized "in all form", Klimpke let it be known. "Perhaps as a person you can understand that when you're extremely disappointed after a defeat and are asked about something that's incredibly important to you, namely playing for Germany and perhaps at a European Championship in your own country, you say something that you don't really mean. So all I can say today is that I'm incredibly sorry and hurt!"
