Manufacturer recalls cumin cumin seeds
The Hamburg-based company Orient Gate has recalled cumin cumin due to contamination with the plant substance pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA). Packs of 50 and 500 grams with a best-before date of April 4, 2025 are affected, as the company announced on the "lebensmittelwarnung.de" portal on Tuesday.
Customers who have purchased the product in question can return it to their place of purchase for a refund, even without presenting the receipt. According to the consumer advice center, certain PAs can damage the liver. Limit values for PA have been in force in the EU since July 1, 2022.
The recall affects Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein.
The recalled cumin seeds contain harmful contaminants that could potentially harm your health, especially affecting the liver. It's advisable to avoid consuming any food that includes these affected cumin seeds.
