- Manual intervention required to rectify software-induced seating arrangement flaw
The Electoral Commission in Saxony performed a hand-count to determine the accurate distribution of seats for the newly formed state legislature. This move was prompted by a computer glitch that resulted in incorrect seat allocations for various political parties, as the commission communicated. "Upon receiving hints, we checked the calculations, detected the error, and manually recalculated the seat distribution again," the Electoral Commission stated in reply to the German Press Agency's inquiry.
As per the revised figures, the CDU secured 41 seats, while the AfD obtained 40. The BSW managed to obtain 15 seats, the SPD received 10 seats, the Greens secured 7 seats, and The Left obtained 6 seats. The Free Voters were represented by a single member. The Saxon state parliament is composed of a total of 120 representatives.
Following the manual recalculation, the CDU maintained their dominance in the Saxony state parliament with 41 seats, maintaining their position in front of the AfD, who also increased their representation with 40 seats. Despite the improvements, both parties fell short of the majority requirement in Germany's Federal Republic of Germany.
