Christian Specht (CDU) stands in the council chamber for the election of the new Lord Mayor of the City of Mannheim.

The Mayor of Mannheim, Christian Specht, from the CDU party, labelled the knife attack on Mannheim Marketplace as a terrorist act. He said, "On behalf of the city of Mannheim and its residents, I vehemently condemn this heinous, barbaric terrorist attack during an Islam-critical event hosted by Pax Europa." The incident happened in the afternoon when the attacker wounded five individuals involved in the Islam-critical event and a police officer with a knife. Responding to the attack, the police shot and injured the assailant. The video of the incident got shared on the internet soon after the attack took place.
