Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's head of government, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), expressed shock over the tragic killing of a police officer in Mannheim and called for justice to be served. "The death of the young officer leaves me profoundly affected," she said. "The perpetrator must face the consequences of our legal system." Schwesig expressed her thoughts on the social media site X.

The Rostock police shared a photo on X with the hashtag #Einervonuns of grieving police officers at the Warnemünder Mole, stating, "In deep mourning and thinking of our comrades and colleagues at Mannheim Police!"

Early on Friday morning, a 25-year-old man, armed with a knife, injured six people, including a 29-year-old police officer, at a Pax Europa event on the Mannheim town square. The police officer later succumbed to his wounds on Sunday afternoon.

The attacker, holding Afghan citizenship, viciously stabbed the officer in the head. The reason for the assault is currently unknown. As of now, the man remains unable to be questioned due to health issues, according to the Prosecutor's Office. He too was wounded mere moments after the attack.
