Following an acid assault on business mogul Bernhard Günther in Haan close to Düsseldorf, the final conviction of the second offender has also been upheld. Germany's Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe turned down the appeal of the individual who was sentenced in February by the Wuppertal Regional Court to 11 years in prison for grievous bodily harm. According to the BGH, the regional court's judgment contained no legal faults.

The man joined forces with an accomplice to splash highly potent acid on the executive in 2018. The attack occurred as Günther was returning from a run. As the CFO of the energy company Innogy at the time, Günther suffered severe injuries and briefly faced the prospect of losing his sight.

The accomplice was convicted in 2022, and his verdict too has been finalized. The key figures behind the brutal assault remain unidentified.

The accomplice's conviction was also upheld by The Court of Justice, affirming the verdict of the Wuppertal Regional Court. Regardless, the individuals responsible for the acid attack on Bernhard Günther remain at large, with their identities yet to be disclosed.
