Manager Baldi: Alba Berlin in "survival mode"
Alba Berlin manager Marco Baldi currently sees many problems at the capital city team. "We can barely train and are in pure survival mode," the 61-year-old told rbb about the many injuries at the sixth-placed team in the BBL table.
The numerous injuries to players are certainly one reason for the defeats the club has suffered recently. "It's a very difficult situation. First of all, we lost all our centers," said Baldi on the situation. That was also to the detriment of the other team members, who now had to play all the harder. There are now even difficulties in forming a complete team, even with the support of the youth players. "That's why I'm not even looking at the table at the moment," said the 61-year-old.
After losing five games in a row, the team has not yet been able to build on the successes of previous years. The results in the Euroleague are also sobering - the Berliners are in last place. "We're not yet a serious contender for the playoffs, you have to say that clearly - also for economic reasons," said Baldi. "But we will continue to try to develop in this direction."
There are still problems with the Mercedes-Benz Arena. "One of the big problems is the availability of the arena and the economic price we still have to pay for it. That is a major long-term threat." Without support, the club would not be able to progress.
Despite the challenges, Alba Berlin managed to secure a spot in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), thanks to their strong performance in the league. In the BBL, ALBA Berlin's struggles continued, with their focus mainly on staying afloat due to numerous injuries.
The absence of their centers has not only affected their performance on the court but has also added to the pressure on the remaining players. In a bid to overcome this, Alba Berlin has been relying on their youth players to contribute and help form a complete team.
