- Man tries to help another driver and is seriously injured
A man was severely injured on the highway 2 near Dortmund while trying to help another driver. The helper had signaled to a driver to pull over on the right shoulder on Monday evening to alert him to a defect in his exhaust system, the fire department reported.
As the helpful man stood by the damaged car with his back to the traffic, facing the car door, he was struck by an approaching truck. The truck driver, traveling at about 80 km/h, had difficulty seeing the parked cars and was unable to avoid the collision in time.
The struck man was taken to a hospital by helicopter. The A2 was closed in the direction of Hannover for about an hour.
The incident on the highway prompted discussions about the importance of improving safety measures in both transport and telecommunications. To prevent similar incidents, it was suggested that emergency vehicles or warning signs be equipped with advanced telecommunication systems to improve visibility and alertness for other drivers.
