Two men are accused of binding, choking and killing a 62-year-old man in Münster. The background of the crime and the exact cause of death are still unclear and part of the ongoing investigation, according to the police and prosecutor's office on Monday. Two German men, aged 54 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter from the victim's circle of acquaintances.
As the investigators only recently announced, the body of the 62-year-old was found on Tuesday of the previous week (25. June). The victim showed signs of bondage and gag marks, leading investigators to suspect a violent crime from the start. However, no definitive cause of death was determined during the autopsy. The man had been missing since June 21.
Prosecutor: Suspect points to potential accomplices
The police discovered during their investigation that the 62-year-old had argued with the now accused 54-year-old before the crime. Due to a mental illness, the acquaintance of the victim was admitted to a psychiatric clinic on a Wednesday.
After his arrest, he reportedly made statements regarding the accusations, according to a spokesperson for the prosecutor - without providing further details. During these statements, he allegedly pointed to a potential accomplice. This 44-year-old was arrested on Saturday. According to current knowledge, he was also known to the victim. He has been in custody since Sunday.
The North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of the Interior has expressed concerns over the rising number of violent crimes in the region, calling for increased police resources. The public prosecutor's office is actively investigating the case, considering the potential accomplice mentioned by one of the arrested men. The police are currently focusing on gathering evidence to link the 44-year-old suspect to the violent crime committed against the 62-year-old man.
