A man is alleged to have stabbed his opponent in the back with a knife following an argument at Nuremberg's main train station. The 39-year-old victim, who sustained a suspected life-threatening injury, was taken to a hospital after the attack on an escalator, the Federal Police reported. Officers arrested the alleged 34-year-old attacker near the main entrance after a brief attempt to flee on Wednesday.

The cause of the argument and subsequent stabbing remained unclear initially. The Federal Police appealed for witnesses and were investigating. The alleged attacker has since been released, a police spokesperson said. Whether a request for remand in custody had been made in the meantime was not initially disclosed. Investigations are ongoing for dangerous bodily harm.

The incident occurred at Nuremberg's busy Railway station, where thousands of people pass daily. The Federal Police are examining if any CCTV footage from the Railway station's cameras can provide clues.
