Berlin-Spandau - Man shoots at police car: Suspected blank-firing weapon

A man has shot at two police cars in the Staaken district of Berlin-Spandau. According to initial findings, he is believed to have used a blank-firing weapon, a police spokesperson said. According to the statement, the police were initially called to a traffic obstruction at the corner of Torweg and Isenburger Weg on Tuesday afternoon. On arrival, the man fired at the emergency vehicle. This reportedly caused a window to shatter. The man also shot at the emergency vehicle that was called to assist shortly afterwards, which also shattered a window. According to the spokesperson, the officers then fired. It is not yet clear how many shots were fired.

The perpetrator was arrested by the police after a short escape. Both the police officers and the perpetrator were reportedly unharmed. According to the police, it is not yet known whether the man was connected to the previously reported traffic obstruction. The investigation is ongoing.

"Today shows that even a trivial operation such as the punishment of a traffic obstruction can turn into a life-threatening situation," said police union (GdP) spokesman Benjamin Jendro after the incident.
