Man rides drunk and without lights on a bicycle on the highway
A man was driving drunk on a bicycle without lights on the highway. Several road users were able to avoid the cyclist on the A8 and prevent an accident, according to the police. The 50-year-old is said to have been rear-ended near Günzburg on Tuesday night and was even driving in the middle lane at one point. Shortly after the police received the report, the officers found the man and his bicycle on the hard shoulder.
An initial alcohol test revealed a level of well over 1.6 per mille. The police also found a knife on the man, which he is not allowed to carry in public under the Weapons Act. He is now being investigated for, among other things, endangering road traffic.
Despite the incident on the highway, the area of Swabia continuing its usual commute was uninterrupted by bicycle-related traffic disruptions. However, the incident raised concerns about the increasing trend of alcohol-related crimes, including drunken cycling, in the region.
