Before the island of Norderney - Man Orders Overboard, Lifeboats Save Seafarer
A 46-year-old mariner ended up in the North Sea near Juist and Norderney. The German League for Rescue at Sea reported the news over the weekend.
Early Friday afternoon, the sailor embarked on a journey with his vessel around 2.5 kilometers west of Norderney's western tip. However, his journey took an unexpected turn, and his boat became stranded on a sandbank due to low tide. Despite their efforts with a throw line, lifeguards couldn't reach the ship because of the unreachable sandbank. As the tide ebbed, the surf intensified, causing the boat to constantly hit the sandbank, breaking the keel and the mast.
Fearing for his life, the sailor decided to abandon ship and venture into the cold waters of the North Sea. The lifeguards quickly gained control of the situation, saved the mariner, and transported him to shore. Upon inspection, the man displayed signs of hypothermia, and emergency services rushed him to the hospital.
