Deployment of SEK team - Man lights up his father in flames and takes aim at officers.

During an operation by the Special Operations Command (SEK) in Hamburg, a 51-year-old man was fatally shot. Police reported that they got a call from neighbors around midnight due to a man acting suspiciously. His 81-year-old dad had called for help because of severe injuries he had received. Before that, the son was believed to have purposefully set the dad's clothes on fire.

Emergency medical personnel treated the man for severe burns and smoke inhalation. The dad was admitted to the hospital with his serious burns and underwent surgery, but wasn't in critical condition.

When the first police cars arrived at the house in the Rahlstedt district, the 51-year-old man started shooting randomly at the officers. The police called in the SEK, who arrived soon. However, the man reportedly kept shooting at them - and they returned fire. He was fatally injured.

The paramedics confirmed the man's death. The fire department spokesperson mentioned this. The police spokesperson added that they're now investigating how many officers shot at the man, how often, what kind of ammunition he used, and how many shots he fired. The man was possibly going through a psychological crisis.

The Homicide Commission and the Public Prosecutor's Office are taking over the investigation into the attempted murder. As usual in cases of firearms use, the Internal Investigations Department of the Interior Ministry is also looking into the incident.

Before dawn broke, authorities transported the attacker's body away in a black bag. Investigators also secured evidence at the crime scene with tape.
