Traffic - Man involved in fatal accident on A2 - closed for hours
A man has crashed his car on the Autobahn 2 and died. The 27-year-old left the road near the Garbsen Nord filling station and service area on Wednesday night for unknown reasons and crashed into the side of a parked truck, among other things, according to police on Wednesday. Due to the accident, the highway was closed for hours in the direction of Dortmund. In the morning, two of the three lanes were reopened.
According to the information provided, the driver initially collided with the crash barrier. He then drove over the grass verge and crashed into the side of the truck, which was parked on the slip road to the acceleration lane. As a result, the man died immediately. A 40-year-old man who was resting in the truck was slightly injured. The police estimated the material damage at around 82,000 euros.
The collision caused the vehicles to leak fuel, which is why the highway was closed. One of the lanes is still impassable due to the recovery and cleaning work, the police announced on Wednesday morning. There is therefore a tailback. It is not yet clear when the third lane will be open.
