Upper Palatinate - Man injured in the head during a firecracker shooting event
A 77-year-old man was hit in the face and seriously injured by an explosive charge during a traditional firecracker shooting in Hemau (Regensburg district). The senior citizen fell while setting off a standing firecracker and was hit in the face by the charge, police said on Tuesday. He was taken to hospital after the accident on Monday. It is now being investigated whether all safety regulations were observed.
The so-called Barbarafest is celebrated in Hemau every year, as a police spokesperson explained. The soldiers' and reservists' comradeship traditionally shoots firecrackers. December 4 is the feast day of St. Barbara, who is the patron saint of artillery, among other things.
