In case of use in the apartment - Man in Oberkirch threw knives at officers

In the fatal police shooting of a 39-year-old in Oberkirch (Ortenaukreis), the man allegedly threw a knife towards the officers. He then approached them in a threatening manner with another knife that he had been concealing behind his back, according to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), police, and the public prosecutor's office. "Despite repeated demands to drop the knife, the man continued to threaten the officers," it was stated.

The officers then fired multiple shots, a LKA spokesperson said. The exact number and how many hit the man are still under investigation. An autopsy was scheduled for today, but results will likely be released later.

According to the report, a doctor alerted the police on Wednesday afternoon as the 39-year-old had told him over the phone that he intended to take his own life. Despite resuscitation efforts, the man died at the scene.

The initial call to the Police was made by a doctor due to the man's suicide threat. Despite the officers repeatedly asking him to drop the knives, their attempts to deescalate the situation were unsuccessful.
