Man in custody after "skimming" attacks: over 30 victims
Following several cases of data theft from ATMs in the Lake Constance region, a suspect is in custody. The public prosecutor's office and police announced on Monday that a total of around 74,000 euros had been stolen from more than 30 victims.
The 36-year-old is said to have installed technical devices on ATMs in at least three cases between January and March in the Friedrichshafen, Ravensburg and Wangen im Allgäu areas. With their help, he was able to access electronic card data and record the respective PIN. Such acts are known as "skimming".
Special police forces arrested the man in Saarbrücken on Monday last week. Among other things, they found duplicate cards.
The suspect's alleged crimes involved not only data theft but also targeting banks through ATMs. Even after his arrest in Saarbrücken, duplicate bank cards were found in his possession.
