Crime - Man hits police officer in the face while trying to escape
A 29-year-old police officer was assaulted and slightly injured by a man during an operation in the Landkreis Friesland. Already on Thursday night, the police in Jever had to take the 43-year-old into custody because he was drunk and disoriented on a property, as the police reported today.
On Friday, the man was released and went to a supermarket shortly thereafter. There, he opened food and ate it there. A shoplifting complaint was filed against him and he received a warning, which he disregarded multiple times.
Therefore, the man was supposed to be taken into custody again. During this, he tried to escape and hit the police officer in the face with his arm. The officer was slightly injured but still duty-ready. The officer and a colleague were able to subdue the 43-year-old on the ground. After being sobered up, he was taken into custody and later released.
In the aftermath of the incident, the man was accused of making an escape attempt while in police custody in the County of Friesland. This incident occurred in Lower Saxony, specifically in Jever, where the man had previously been held due to drunkenness and disorientation. The police officer, despite being slightly injured during the altercation, remained duty-ready and successfully subdued the man, who violated multiple warnings following a shoplifting complaint.
