Crime - Man hides 19,400 euros under car on the run from customs
While fleeing from customs officers, a man hid more than 19,400 euros under a parked car in Hamburg. However, the police were able to apprehend the man a short time later and also found the money when reconstructing his escape route, as the main customs office in Hamburg announced on Thursday. According to the information, the man was traveling in a car with two other men towards the main train station shortly after midnight at the end of November when he noticed the customs patrol, stopped his car and all three occupants fled on foot. Only he could be caught. He had a further 3700 euros in 100-euro bills with him.
Because he could not credibly explain where he got the money from, he now has to answer for suspicion of money laundering. In the car, which smelled strongly of marijuana, 13 cell phone credit cards with a maximum value of 3250 euros and a hotel card were also found. During the search of the room, the officers also came across two men behaving conspicuously with a bag containing drugs. It is now being investigated whether they are the fleeing passengers.
