Extremisus - Man from the Reichsbürger scene arrested in Schleswig-Holstein
A suspected member of the so-called Reichsbürger scene and alleged supporter of a terrorist organization has been arrested in Schleswig-Holstein. The Central Office for State Protection of the Hamburg Public Prosecutor General's Office, with the help of the Schleswig-Holstein State Criminal Police Office, also executed two search warrants in the Bad Bramstedt area (Segeberg district), the public prosecutor's office announced.
The 66-year-old man is accused of supporting a group belonging to the Reichsbürger scene, which is said to have formed in January 2022 at the latest with the aim of replacing the liberal democratic basic order of the Federal Republic of Germany with an authoritarian system of government modeled on the constitution of the German Reich of 1871. According to the public prosecutor's office, its members are said to have planned, among other things, to use explosives to cause a power blackout that would last for weeks. This was intended to cut off the population from radio and press coverage. The group also wanted to make it more difficult for the state security authorities to react to the attempted coup.
Investigators also accuse the group of planning to kidnap Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD). The killing of the bodyguards is said to have been at least condoned.
According to the investigators, the 66-year-old was informed of the intentions and declared his willingness to participate in the attempted coup. He had taken part in a group meeting. The public prosecutor's office also suspects the man of possessing a live revolver with ammunition in October 2023.
Schleswig-Holstein's Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU) praised the cooperation between the Central Office for State Protection of the Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office and the Schleswig-Holstein State Criminal Police Office. "Anyone who opposes our free and democratic basic order must expect the full force of the state. I am very pleased that this person has now been arrested and that such consistent action is being taken against the enemies of our democracy."
