- Man fled on foot after car accident
After a traffic accident in Krefeld, a man fled the scene, but police conducted an extensive search for him out of concern. As police reported, late in the evening, a car collided with a street sign for unknown reasons and was completely totaled. Since the responding officers could not rule out "a significant injury" to the driver, extensive search efforts were initiated, including the deployment of a helicopter.
The man was later found to have only minor injuries; the 20-year-old received outpatient treatment. As he was under the influence of alcohol, a blood sample was taken from him. An investigation has been opened against the man.
Despite the man's initial absence, the local police diligently followed up on the case. Upon discovering his whereabouts, they arrested him for leaving the scene of an accident.
