Accidents - Man drives into erratic boulder on A8: life-threatening injuries
A driver has suffered life-threatening injuries in an accident at a rest area on the Autobahn 8 near Heusweiler. According to the police on Sunday, the 68-year-old was driving towards Zweibrücken on Saturday afternoon and wanted to leave the motorway at the Kutzhof rest area. For an initially unexplained reason, he veered off the road to the left and hit an erratic boulder on the grass verge without braking. The force of the impact catapulted the small car into the air and it rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof at the rest area.
The trapped driver had to be freed from the vehicle by the fire department. He was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The rest area remained closed for around four hours. The investigation into the cause of the accident was initially ongoing and witnesses were asked to contact the Völklingen police.
