Fire department operation - Man dies in apartment fire in Berlin-Lichtenberg

At a residential fire in Berlin-Lichtenberg, a 89-year-old man has passed away. The fire department announced on Friday morning that the fire broke out on a balcony in the ninth floor of a multi-story building and spread to other balconies. According to the police, the deceased person was the tenant of the apartment.

When the alarmed firefighters began their extinguishing work, the apartment was reportedly on fire by the fire department. A person, whose identity was initially unknown, was found dead at the scene. The fire department stated that 60 residents left the building independently.

The firefighters were able to prevent further spread of the fire. According to the police, the cause of the fire and whether the house is still habitable is being investigated. There are currently no indications of external causation, according to the police.
