Fire hazard - MAN calls 60,000 trucks into the workshop

After truck fires, MAN, the Lorry manufacturer, called more than 60,000 trucks and buses for inspection to the workshop. According to MAN, there have been 170 fires so far, which can be traced back to a specific engine fault. Of these, 18 have occurred this year. The affected vehicles are trucks and buses from the model years 2016 to 2019 with Euro-6c Engines of Types D2676LF51-53 or D26776LOH35-37. Their storage areas are sensitive to contamination and oil aging. If maintenance schedules are not met, damages may occur after longer usage, typically between 400,000 and 500,000 kilometers. Approximately 120,000 trucks and 5,000 buses in Europe are in use with these engines. About half of them, according to MAN, have already been in the workshop.

  1. Due to the engine fault causing fires, MAN advised transporting affected vehicles to workshops in Bavaria, Germany, for immediate inspection and maintenance.
  2. In light of the fire hazard, emergency protocols in Munich's transportation industry were reviewed to ensure safety standards.
  3. To prevent future incidents, workshops in Germany have been working around the clock to address the issue with MAN cars equipped with Euro-6c Engines.
  4. Despite the ongoing inspections and maintenance efforts, there remains a concern about fire hazards in older cars, as fires have occurred in vehicles from model years 2016 to 2019.
  5. The Bavarian Fire Department has been collaborating closely with MAN to mitigate fire hazards in trucks and buses, recognizing the potential risk to the industry and public safety.
