Waldkraiburg - Man attacked after Turkish victory in European Championship match

After an attack on a young man in Waldkraiburg, Upper Bavaria, during celebrations for Turkey's success in the EM game against Czech Republic, the police are investigating - among other things, for dangerous bodily harm. The incident occurred late in the evening on a Wednesday. According to the police, around a hundred celebrants had gathered at the city square in Waldkraiburg, as reported on Friday. At approximately 11:45 p.m., a 19-year-old mixed into the crowd with a Kurdish flag. This led to tumultuous scenes, the police stated.

The young man was then attacked and beaten. Police officers from the Waldkraiburg inspection stood protectively in front of him. While the officers remained completely undisturbed, the attackers continued to try and assault the 19-year-old. The flag was taken from him. It was later found and secured in a trash can at the city square.

The 19-year-old was taken to a patrol car for his own safety. The police reportedly managed to shield him from further attacks and remove him from the scene. The crowd then dispersed. The young man sustained facial bruises and complained of pain in his shoulder area. The police are now looking for witnesses to identify the perpetrators. The officers themselves were not physically harmed, according to the statement.
