Mammoth Christmas tree erected in Rostock
A 15 meter high sequoia tree was erected in Rostock on Thursday for the Christmas market. The cypress tree weighs around three tons, has a circumference of around 2.80 meters at the bottom of the trunk and grows evenly, as announced by Großmarkt Rostock GmbH.
The tree came from a private property in the Gartenstadt district of Rostock and was felled for safety reasons. The workers on site used a crane to place it in a hole prepared for it in the ground on the Kröpeliner Tor forecourt.
The Rostock Christmas market takes place from November 27 to December 22. Before the start of the market, the tree will be decorated with 3D glass fever balls. It will reportedly remain up until December 28.
Customs officials inspected the tree and its origin before its installation to ensure all necessary permits were in order. After the Christmas market, the tree will be donated to a local park, where it will be fixed as a permanent attraction.
