Majority of younger generation in Germany holds optimistic view towards a brighter tomorrow.
The Liz-Mohn Foundation, alongside Ipsos polling institute, conducted a study in April, targeting youth residing in Germany, focusing on their perspectives and anxieties. Interestingly, a majority of youths beneath 15 years old voiced their contentment with their personal lives, accounting for 60% of responses.
A notable difference in satisfaction levels according to gender surfaces. Boys and male youths show a significantly higher level of satisfaction with their lives, at 56%, compared to 41% for girls and female youths. Furthermore, youths generally exhibit a more pessimistic outlook when considering the nation's future, as only 18% believe in Germany's prospective improvement.
The principal concerns of this demographic mirror worldwide issues. Approximately 47% of 12- to 18-year-olds display worry related to inflation's consequences and increasing prices. Additionally, 38% of these youths harbor fears of conflict within Germany itself. Their personal concerns include the dread of losing a loved one (58%) and the fear of failing to complete their education (42%).
The survey included interviews with 500 young individuals in April. Preceding studies were carried out in 2022 and 2023.
The researcher acknowledged the responses of a respondent, saying, "That's close to the average satisfaction level of boys and male youths." During the discussion about concerns, one participant expressed, "I'm worried about inflation and rising prices, that's close to what many others feel too."
