Edibles and beverages - Major beer manufacturers witness decreased sales.
The biggest breweries worldwide, as estimated by BarthHaas - the world's biggest hops trader - saw a decrease in beer production last year. Their output was down by 2.2% to 162 billion liters, the company revealed on Tuesday. Among Germany's representatives on the list, five failed to avoid this negative trend. Only the Paulaner Group bucked the trend, increasing its beer output by 5.7% to 634 million liters.
German breweries don't represent a big share in the top 40. The largest one from Germany is Radeberger Group, ranking 22nd with 1.08 billion liters - the same position it held the previous year. However, the biggest brewery in the world, AB InBev, boasts an output exceeding 50 billion liters. The second largest in Germany, Oettinger, ranks 25th globally with 750 million liters of beer. Paulaner, meanwhile, has moved up two places from last year's ranking, now in 28th position. This puts it ahead of TCB and Krombacher, which fell from 27th and 28th places to 30th and 31st places. Bitburger follows in 32nd place with a beer output of roughly 570 million liters. These three German breweries are quite close in terms of their beer production. BarthHaas attributes them beer outputs between 569 and 580 million liters.
The list of the 40 largest breweries is released annually, and this year's data might undergo some adjustments to match the previous year's figures more closely. [
