Maite Kelly: Women have to support each other
Pop singer Maite Kelly wants to encourage women to promote each other more. "Unfortunately, I was always promoted more by men than by women. I promised myself I would do things differently as a female entrepreneur, because that's actually really sad," said the 43-year-old in an interview with the German Press Agency. In recent years, she has repeatedly noticed that there are systems "that keep women down". However, she refuses to get involved in them, the singer said. "It is important that we have smart mothers in our society who are not kept in such systems - such as mini-jobs."
Her motherhood and also being a single mother have given her the strength to succeed in a male-dominated world in recent years, said Kelly. "After all, we women have the strength of gentle reason and advocacy. Like water, we can flow through walls with the necessary strength."
Looking at her career, she realizes that her strength is limited, said the Berlin native. "My gut feeling tells me that my creative power is enough for seven albums." Her fourth album "Love, Maite - Das Beste... Until now!" was therefore a deliberate intermediate point.
Kelly plans to tour Germany with the best-of album from November 9. "Just four years ago, my shows weren't as hit-laden as this one." Her recipe for success is the combination of authenticity and commerciality: "It works, as you can see with Udo Lindenberg or Taylor Swift, for example." In addition to the opening concert in Cologne, further appearances are planned in Dortmund, Leipzig, Hamburg and Berlin.
As the child of Dan and Barbara-Ann Kelly, Maite Kelly was already part of the music group The Kelly Family, which was founded in 1974. She enjoyed success as a pop singer with songs such as "Warum hast Du nicht nein gesagt" and "Sieben Leben für dich".
Maite Kelly acknowledged that she has faced challenges in a male-dominated music industry, stating, "Despite being a strong woman, I've realized that my creative power is limited, but I believe it's enough for seven albums." During her shows, she noticed a shift in audience response, mentioning, "Just four years ago, my shows weren't as hit-laden as this one, and I believe this success is a result of my blend of authenticity and commerciality, similar to artists like Udo Lindenberg or Taylor Swift."
