- Mainz sporting director Bungert finds it challenging to locate the figure of "Brajan 2.0"

Freshly assigned Mainz team manager Niko Bungert maintained a tight lip regarding potential fresh faces joining the Bundesliga squad. The 37-year-old remained mum on the topic, sharing his stance after Mainz 05's thrilling 3:1 overtime triumph against lower-league outfit SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the initial round of the DFB-Pokal on Friday night.

"The final two weeks of the transfer window can be rather exciting, things can shift rapidly," Bungert expressed. "At present, we don't possess any sealed deals with prospective players."

Bungert: "We'll weigh that up internally"

Mainz made headlines on Wednesday, confirming the departure of prized asset Brajan Gruda to English Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion. The club reportedly pocketed a staggering €30 million from the transfer.

Acquiring a "Brajan 2.0" isn't an easy feat, Bungert admitted, highlighting the club's efforts to bridge the gap as efficiently as possible. "There are various kinds of players out there, and we'll deliberate internally on which option is the most rational option."

Bungert mentioned, "Despite the excitement of the transfer window's final weeks, we currently haven't secured any new signings." In the pursuit of replacing Brajan Gruda, Bungert added, "We're exploring different options in the soccer market to find a suitable replacement."
