German soccer team Mainz 05 has secured the services of South Korean midfielder Hyun-seok Hong. The 25-year-old midfielder is joining the club from Belgian team KAA Gent, having inked a deal lasting until 2028, as per Mainz's announcement. The financial terms of the transfer remain confidential, with rumors swirling around a potential figure between €4-6 million.

Hong will link up once again with his South Korean compatriot and teammate Jae-sung Lee at the FSV. The duo have a shared history, having represented their national team together. As Mainz's sporting director Christian Heidel put it, "Hyun-seok Hong is a skillful, imaginative, and goal-scoring attacking midfielder who can adapt to various positions."

Heidel lauded Hong's endurance: "He might appear to have a keen interest in running: he consistently covers tremendous distances for his teams, which aligns perfectly with our high-energy playstyle."

Hong spent time with Gent starting from summer 2022, contributing to more than 100 competitive matches and scoring a near 40-goal tally. He also had a temporary stint in Germany, representing the U19 and senior squads of SpVgg Unterhaching between 2018 and 2019.

Mainz 05's recent signing, Hyun-seok Hong, will be competing in the German Bundesliga. His South Korean teammate Jae-sung Lee is already part of the team in the Bundesliga.
