The transfer of Brajan Gruda from FSV Mainz 05 to the English club Brighton & Hove Albion appears to be imminent. "It's complicated to talk about a transfer that isn't finalized yet. However, I openly admit that the likelihood of this transfer happening is very high," said sporting director Christian Heidel. There are still a few things that depend on it.

Initially, the TV station Sky reported on this. The transfer fee is said to be around 30 million euros. Gruda's contract with Mainz still runs until 2026. Heidel emphasized that the transfer fee has not yet been determined. In any case, it would not be the 50 million euros that have been mentioned in the media from time to time in the past. "I never said that Brajan Gruda costs 50 million euros," said Heidel.

Gruda had attracted attention with strong performances for Mainz last season and had expanded the training group of the German national team before the European Football Championship. If the transfer goes through, the Rhinelanders will make up for it on the transfer market.

"We will do something, everyone can be sure of that. We will bring in more than one player. I won't commit to positions. We have to see," said Heidel. Work is also continuing on the return of defender Sepp van den Berg, who was last loaned out to FC Liverpool. "We haven't given up on him coming back to us. We're still working on it," confirmed Heidel.

The first FSV Mainz 05 player who might be leaving is Brajan Gruda, with a potential transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion. If the transfer is successful, Mainz will need to find replacements in the transfer market.
