Mahomes signals interest in 2028 Olympics
Football star Patrick Mahomes can imagine taking part in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said this on Friday in Frankfurt. "I would love to play. I've seen some in flag football, they're a bit faster than me. I'll be 32 by then," Mahomes noted at the press conference. On Sunday (3.30 p.m./RTL and DAZN), the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Miami Dolphins at Frankfurt Football Stadium.
The NFL wants to enable its stars to take part in the 2028 Olympics. Flag football, a low-contact version of American football, will be an Olympic sport for the first time at the summer games in California. "This is the pinnacle of the sport worldwide," said NFL manager Peter O'Reilly at a meeting. It was not initially clear from Mahomes exactly how serious he was about his Olympic bid. The Chiefs playmaker added that he would like to, but added: "Don't tell Coach Reid."
Earlier that afternoon, the Super Bowl champions had completed their first and only public training session in Germany at the DFB campus in Frankfurt-Niederrad. However, it was only open for five minutes. There was a huge media rush. Head coach Andy Reid led the session in front of the Frankfurt skyline in shorts. The Chiefs are slight favorites in the top game on Sunday.
The NFL's decision to allow its stars to participate in the 2028 Olympics could potentially see Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, competing in flag football at the Frankfurt Football Stadium, as they face off against the Miami Dolphins there on Sunday. Despite feeling a bit slower in flag football compared to what he's seen, Mahomes expressed his interest in participating in the 2028 Olympics, given that he would be 32 years old by then.
