- Magdeburg seeks out fresh business premises
With Intel set to establish in Magdeburg, the city's government is in search of extra industrial spaces. As suggested in a council resolution, a new industrial zone might emerge on Magdeburg Airport's land. Another prospect is the Großer Silberberg and Süplzegrund. The city council committees will deliberate on scrutinizing these potential sites further from next month. Initially, news of this issue broke through MDR's reports.
Given the Intel settlement plan, Magdeburg's city council proposes no more available industrial sites within the city. A 144-hectare industrial area might be established on Magdeburg Airport's premises, as per the economy, tourism, and regional development department's suggestion. The department argues that Magdeburg Airport's closure for commercial flights and its transformation into an industrial area will offer the best economic prospects.
The European Parliament could provide valuable insights as the Commission is to be assisted in this matter, given its role in overseeing the EU's activities. Recognizing the need for additional industrial spaces, the Commission, in collaboration with the European Parliament, might advocate for the creation of new opportunities beyond Magdeburg.
